LAST YEAR:
We
are back from our concerts in Scandanavia. What a fantastic week-end it
was!!
Thanks to Henrik once more for Gotebörg, and Brian for Copenhagen
(where Psyche hadn't played since 1992!)
The crowd in Sweden was great, but in Denmark they partied with us like
we haven't experienced since INFEST in Bradford.
Since it was the last Psyche concert of 2002 we were really happy to
end this year on a high note although the serious work
on our next album starts soon.
Many
have asked if the new version of "Unveiling The Secret" we play
live is going to be released?
Well yes, it has been available in the live version on Psyche's own
LIVE 2K. This CD-R will however goes out of print
by the end of this year, so get yours now!
Here we are giving you an excerpt from Psyche's tribute to the
PLASMATICS. This is Darrin's favourite punk band from his youth, and
the
tribute version of "Butcher Baby" has been created with former PSYCHE
member Per-Anders Kurenbach, as Per now plays in a punk band called THE
SPOOK (www.thespook.de),
The timing just
seemed right.

We are pleased to announce the release of "Endangered Species" via Accession Records in Europe. Our collection of remixes and new titles placed # 3 in the German Alternative Charts (DAC). ART OF FACT RECORDS in North America have released our remix album with different artwork and the now sold out "Misguided Angels" as a bonus CD!
4 new tracks, "The Beyond", "Damaged Soul", "Memento", and "Eleven" are joined by brand new remixes of "The Hiding Place", "Renegades", as well as "Damaged Soul" and "Memento" plus of course a few more more surprises. MASSIV IN MENSCH has mixed us once again, and 2 of the new tracks were re-worked with Marcus Geltner and Toby Bartsch of SIXTY WINTERS.
This year began with several international concert appearances. We
had a fantastic time presenting our new songs in Bordeaux, France at
the
end of April. We gave concerts in Montreal, Canada and appeared at a
festival in Hamburg with The Crüxshadows.
Of course a major highlight was our appearance at "Synthpop Goes The World"
in Toronto followed by a return to New York and Detroit, and some new
territories of North America. Also our first concert in Holland since
Psyche supported Anne Clark there in 1991. It was great to play in The
Hague and we hope we'll be back next year.
Check the galleries as some great pics from our concert in Zürich courtesy of Daniel Wernli are linked, and there's a new collection from our North American dates this summer including many of the bands from Synthpop Goes The World.

Incredible! 2002, and it's been 17 years since PSYCHE's debut release
of "Insomnia Theatre" in 1985.
To reminisce on where it all began we have decided to release one
of the earliest performances of PSYCHE ever recorded. "Live At
Belvedere Hall" was performed by Stephen and Darrin Huss in
Edmonton, Alberta on Halloween Night 1983. The very first version of
"Brain Collapses" as well as "Insatiable" were performed that night.
Also "Torture" written with Dwayne Goettel+ (later of SKINNY PUPPY). As
an added bonus among many, we've included "Krieg", our first synth-pop
song also written with Dwayne way back when. The title, although it is
the German word for war, refers in fact to a disco where a wholly
different kind of music and fashion battle took place. Krieg was in
fact the location of the very first PSYCHE perfomance (then a trio)
which was documented on December 13, 1982! Yes folks, PSYCHE has been
around that long.
As always, stay tuned for concert updates, guestbook entries, and the latest Psyche news.
Here are some impressions from our release concert in Bochum's MATRIX, and what went on up to the release of "The Hiding Place".

2000
Although our November concert with WELLE:ERDBALL in Göttingen was originally to be our last in 2000, we in fact found ourselves supporting SPARKS for three dates on their December tour! It was definitely a high point in a year which brought us through Poland, Sweden, and at least ten concerts in Germany.
Since our return from Sweden we've added a gallery for Sweden 2000 from the places we performed at.
We thank Henrik once again for bringing us back to the old "Hellfire Club" now called Plasticity. We had some weird surprises.
Dancing kids on stage. A real mixed audience, and some nice veggie burgers!Linköping was a whole new city for us, and Björn Larrsson was kind enough to try out a Psyche gig. As a reward we had a big crazy audience of latex and goth make-up to convince that we're not a relict of the 80's! We're sure the final encore of the new version of "The Outsider" combined the best of both eras as we ended up quite nicely with a dancing audience. A rather interestingly objective review is included here.
Psyche wins in the long run:"Each band has it's own mythology. Psyche started out in Canada in the beginning of the 80's by the Huss brothers and Dwayne Rudolph Goettel. One of the brothers became mentally ill and disappeared from performance while Goettel joined the legendary band Skinny Puppy and eventually drugged himself to death.
So, for a long time Darrin Huss is the only remaining original member of Psyche. They really never made a breakthrough, but there exist a lot of
faithfull fans especially in Germany. Today Psyche is small enough to perform in Linköping but big enough to attract people from other parts of the country. The performance is quite informal. Before and after the concert Darrin Huss himself sits by a table and sells records. He simply melts in with all the other black dressed people that have came to Skylten to listen to some honest synth music this evening. The concert itself begins a bit cautious. The new material is unknown to old fans and many in the crowd have only heard of Psyche, but never heard their music. I myself have been one of the unlearned but that will change.
Because Psyche is good! With strong melodies and catchy chorus lines, and Darrin Huss actually sings better live than on record. Still it takes time to convince the audience. It was actually easier for the support act Run Level Zero, a completely unknown duo from Stockholm, who made their stage debut this evening. Their straight, hard rhythm soon got people dancing.
But soon enough also Psyche manage to do so. Darrin Huss and his partner behind the machines play old classics on request, a couple of covers and when Darrin throws in a few quotes from Nine Inch Nails and Nitzer Ebb the crowd really starts moving. That which begun as trembling ends with Darrin, after several extras, asking for permission to end the performance with a promise to return and play more songs next year.
Before that we can hope that the arranger Nuclear Nation brings more bands. This ought to be one of the associations most successful arrangement yet."
Östgöta Correnspondenten: Fredrik Kylberg.
Last month in Cologne Darrin was with the e-lectric team and met SPARKS. Ron and Russell Mael, the first Synth-Pop brother duo on the planet."Beat The Clock" was a huge hit for us when we were just roller-skating teens. And who doesn't know "When Do I Get To Sing My Way?"SPARKS have been making their own brand of quirky electro-pop for nearly 30 years, and have just released their latest and maybe greatestchef d'ouevre "Balls" on Strangeways! We highly recommend these new SPARKS tunes to all who enjoy well written and dramatically entertaining electronic pop songs.
A definite highlight is "Scheherazade", but also the new single "Calm Before The Storm" presents a fascinating theatrical arrangement, and has a super cool video. It would be interesting if PSYCHE might someday collaborate with SPARKS, but for now we're currently working on our own new tracks and hope to have a superlative album ready for early release in 2001.We believe Remi and Darrin's "Sanctuary" is going to be Psyche's biggest club hit since "Unveiling The Secret".
July 30 in BOLKOW, POLAND (Castle Party).
The biggest gothic and dark wave festival in the Middle and East Europe.
We ended of our summer in Poland. The Castle Party was great. We spent the whole week-end in Bolkow, and saw some of the other bands on Friday and Saturday. Darrin tried to learn some Polish, but only managed to ask for Piwo(Beer). That went a little too well. We managed to see FADING COLOURS who wanted to do a multiamedia performance, but sadly the wind wouldn't allow for their video screens to stay up. Still, the 'fat' bass trance of "Angel" and "Lorelei" with DeCoy's impressive live vocal was atmospheric enough. We saw AGGRESSIVA 69 the next night, and they got people into slamming with their mix of industrial and groovy sounds. Their NORDLEAD synth sequences blew us away. Remi was suffering from a stuffy nose, and the wind and rain was taking it's toll, but not before our Sunday night where we were to end off the evening together with DYNAMIC MASTERS and GOD'S BOW. We were very nervous after 5 years of abscence from Poland. Expectations were high. Talking, and meeting fans before the concert also added to the suspense. The opening with "Murder In Your Love" was dramatic. The audience had a great sound, but our monitors weren't on, and as we motioned to our soundman he raised the sound, but it was not PSYCHE!! Instead we were greeted with "The Voice" from ULTRAVOX as the CD was still playing through the stage monitors. Still we persisted, and for "Drowning Pool" all was back to order and the audience got a taste of this heavy atmospheric track which we enjoyed performing and hearing for ourselves as well. Other highlights were "Eternal", "The Sundial", and Remi's new synth-drum solo in "Misery". "Goodbye Horses" seems to be more a hit in Germany, whereas our new cover of Seal & Adamski's "Killer" added a new highpoint to our soulful electronic presentation, and ended the evening quite satisfactorally.
After that Darrin did a spontaneous interview with Bert Schneider for Radio CIUT, and then went dancing in a "kiddie" disco to all the horribly embarassing Euro-Chart-Hits. Inspiration for a 1000 S&M scenarios that's for sure! Here is a look again at the castle, and CD which may be ordered from Koch International Poland, we assume. It includes 15 bands from throughout Europe in varying music styles. PSYCHE of course is the only representative of Canada.
Just as a reminder, at the end of May two Synth-Pop Legends PSYCHE and INVISIBLE LIMITS played together for the first time in 6 years!
Some fans may remember seeing Marion and Darrin performing "Love Will Tear Us Apart" at certain locations sometime in 1994.
To showcase the highlights from our recent mini-tour we've added a new Legends United Gallery .
