"EINHEITZBREI - FESTIVAL"
3, Oct. ´98
GELSENKIKIRCHEN, GERMANY (with
Psyche, Substanz T, Mazeland, and Experimentum Crucis)
Germany´s reunification day seems to be a perfect opportunity to join in festival. Under the title Einheitzbrei (roughly tranlated as "warm-up mix") four Bands from the Electro and Gothic Scene showed up together to perform in Gelsenkirchen.Opening act was MAZELAND. The quartet from Bochum gave their very first performance. It was hard to believe this was a debut, as the band with their strong female vocalist (Julia Beyer) perfomed their Gothic Electro-Rock convincingly. With their cover version of the Ramones "Pet Sematary" they were provided with enthusiastic support from Psyche singer Darrin Huss on backing vocals.
Next up was EXPERIMENTUM CRUCIS. One heard much about this band before without actually knowing what to expect from an actual performance. Making their set all the more surprising with their combination of synth songs and their own industrial sounds. Also the trio proved themselves as quite experimental when singer Oliver M. Dahm and keyboarder Mirko Hentrich began pounding out percussion built from car parts during their last track "The Living Theatre". A classic "Einstürzende Neubauten" inspired move.
Nearly as spectactular was the performance of the Frankfurt duo SUBSTANZ T. Some may remember them as support for DIE FORM. Their groovy mix of breakbeats and techno managed to get the around 100 visitors to move a little from their reserved stance.
Finally, PSYCHE, the band most had waited for gave us the honour. By this well loved group it isn´t really necessary to declare that it was no wonder when the later bare-chested singer Darrin Huss and his crew were joyfully applauded. It was equally wonderfull to experience so many of their hits played live once again. Highights
were a new dance mix of "Murder In Your Love", and the always great "Brain Collapses". "Good-Bye Horses" is also a welcome addition at every performance.
